Tatsuhito Horikoshi: When I was little, God was there
Kanda & Oliveira is pleased to announce the solo exhibition of Mr. Tatsuhito Horikoshi entitled "When I was little, God was there".
The title is a reference to the lyrics from a Ghibli movie song, a song dear to his heart, a time capsule of his youth.
"I think my current expression is an extension of the spirituality of my childhood, when I felt something divine in every corner of my life."
Because of the pandemic, social distance measures, and his move to a studio in the countryside where he was born and raised, the artist felt that strong connection to his childhood to a greater extent, and the urge to get in touch with the epicentre of his imagination. Along that dialogue with his former self unfolded the need to slow down and focus on what is important.
The images that had been accumulating deep within himself have emerged, and been brought up to the surface, in a pursuit of meaning and a desire for transformation.
"I want to keep thinking about what it means to make things with sincerity."
When reality and imagination are intertwined, a dream appears.
